Lucas Michael was born May 23rd 2014. We were ready and prepared for an Achondroplasia baby and excited to meet our little person. We prepped for a c-section at the normal local hospital. Lucas was born 6lbs 1oz and as perfect as can be. They then transferred him to the Children’s hospital of Minneapolis where they diagnosed him with a “rare terminal dwarfism” rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctate which is far from a healthy normal Acondroplasia baby. The words made no sense and I didn’t understand. We spent almost a month in the hospital where we learned he couldn’t drink liquids by mouth unless they were thickened to the consistency of honey. Lucas got a G/J feeding tube to compensate for mouth feeds and we went along with figuring out how to bring our sweet boy home. Lucas has had cataracts surgery on both eyes, tubes in his ears, multiple G/J tube placements and replacements and will be having surgery on his spine for his severe cervical stenosis. Lucas has Type 1 RCDP but is a blessing to his brothers and I. He is happy and loves to cuddle and absolutely loves to walk and swing. He is one of the biggest blessings I could ever ask for in life. He is my little warrior and fighter and his mommy loves him to the moon and back!
